About this service

Enhanced external counterpulsation, or EECP, is a treatment rather than a diagnostic test. Inflatable cuffs around the legs tighten and release in time with the heartbeat. A cardiologist may consider it for selected patients with ongoing angina after reviewing their condition and other treatments. Suitability is individual, and benefits are not guaranteed. Before a course of therapy is planned, your clinician will explain the purpose, possible risks, and what follow-up is needed.

What to expect

  1. Review whether EECP is appropriate for your condition.

  2. Rest on a treatment bed with leg cuffs and monitoring.

  3. Discuss comfort, progress, and your individualized treatment plan.

Before your visit

Speak with the office before scheduling EECP. Bring a current medication list and share any changes in your health. The care team will provide clothing, appointment, and treatment instructions tailored to you.
