About this service

AA Doppler means abdominal aortic Doppler ultrasound. A probe placed on the abdomen uses sound waves to examine the aorta and assess blood flow. The study can help a clinician evaluate an abdominal aortic aneurysm, which is an enlargement of this major artery, or follow a known finding over time. Your clinician decides whether testing is appropriate based on your history and risk factors, then explains the measurements and any recommended follow-up.

What to expect

  1. Rest on an examination bed while gel is applied.

  2. Have ultrasound images and blood flow measurements recorded.

  3. Review the findings and any monitoring recommendations.

Before your visit

Ask the office whether your abdominal ultrasound requires any food or drink restrictions and how to manage your usual medications. Preparation can vary. Follow the instructions provided for your own appointment.
